LATINO STUDENTS OFFERED SCHOLARSHIPS

College and High School Scholarships for Latino Students

Applications available from April 2nd to May 15th, 2012

SACRAMENTO, CA 
-- A total of $100,000 dollars in grants and scholarships will be given to college and high school students, as well as to adult education organizations.

The program will benefit Latino students living in Northern California.

The Cien Amigos civic organization, the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California, and the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento are pleased to announce that starting today the applications for the "Cien Amigos - IME Becas Scholarship Fund" will be available at: http://100amigos-imebecas.org . These scholarships are directed to students of Mexican origin and Latinos in general who reside in Northern California. The applications deadline is May 15th, 2012 at 6:00 p.m.

There will be 50 scholarships, worth $1,000 dollars each, that will be awarded to undergraduate students enrolled or about to enroll in public or private universities or community colleges in Northern California; AB540 students are encouraged to apply. Additionally, 100 grants, worth $300 dollars each, will be given to high school students who require financial support to submit applications, buy S.A.T. materials, pay College Board enrollments, or take prep courses to enter college; AB540 students are also encouraged to apply. The Fund will also give out grants to institutions providing Adult Latino students with literacy, primary or secondary school courses, distance learning, computing, English, General Educational Development programs or job training.

The Fund is the product of an agreement between the Cien Amigos: Working for California and Mexico civic group, the Mexican Cultural Center of Northern California and the Consulate General of Mexico in Sacramento. It was created with resources from the Mexican Government and the contributions of Cien Amigos members, as well as with the generous support of numerous business, civic organizations and individuals from the Latino community of Northern California.
