Washington State House of Representatives reach out to Hispanics

House Democrats roll out Spanish-language blog

OLYMPIA – Aiming to improve outreach to the Hispanic community in Washington state, House Democrats have created a Spanish-language legislative blog, Adelante con Demócratas.

The results of the 2010 census are not out yet, but according to a 2008 estimate, about 650,000 people living in Washington state identify themselves as Hispanic or Latino.
That’s a significant number; Hispanics hold a very important place in our society and, as such, deserve to be well-informed.  Citizen participation is essential for a democracy to work well, and the only way they can do so is through accurate and timely information on what takes place in their government.

With this legislative blog, House Democrats not only acknowledge the relevance of the Hispanic community, they also emphasize their interest in keeping in touch with Washington’s Latinos and Latinas.

Visit the blog Adelante con Demócratas (http://hdcadelante.blogspot.com/) frequently to be on top of everything that happens in Olympia during the Legislative Session, which begins on Monday, January 10.
